Marek Ashley Rice Lake Square

I recently moved from the city and have been to this salon twice. The first time I had to add a violet shampoo to get rid of the copper tones I stated I did not like and had to go back to have my hair cut fixed. The fixed haircut turned out nice and I was happy with it. I made the mistake of going back a second time and had a balayage done. Here I am about a week and a half later with a $400 hair color that I am not happy with. It turned out more like highlights vs a balayage and turned brassy right away. I would recommend the colorists discuss color swatches and communicate what it is they are thinking vs what the customer wants. The set up of the salon is different from any I have been to. Hair color is performed at a community type table you would see at restaurant in Chicago and not in front of a mirror. With this setup you cannot see what the stylists is doing and basically have to trust what them. Would highly recommend going somewhere else.

Nellie is amazing and I am so glad that I found her. She has given me perfect haircuts every time that I visit. I have never been good at doing my hair and I was nervous about getting a shorter cut. We looked at pictures, she adapted for my hair, and done. I can do this so easily and it looks great (even after wearing hats!) I get compliments on my haircut all of the time. Nellie really cares that I like my hair and feel confident about styling it after I leave the salon. Plus, Nellie is the sweetest person. Everyone I've met at the salon has been very nice. They stock an excellent cooler of beverages, and treat you like a queen. I see many beautiful hair styles walk past me, showing me the multiple services that they offer. I think I could safely recommend Marek Ashley for many of their services, but I know Nellie gets an A+ as a hair stylist!

Very nice place! Nelly is very kind and bilingual and she helped me by translating what I wanted to say (because I speak Spanish). The color of my hair were done by Carli and she did an excellent job.

The salon itself is fine, but I had a terrible haircut experience during my first visit. I walked out with a bob after asking for a below-the-shoulders trim last fall, and my hair finally just grew out to the length I wanted during the cut. I'm not sure if the stylist is still working there, but she didn't offer any sort of discount after acknowledging that it wasn't what I asked for. Very disappointing overall, and I advise potential clients to be selective about who you see and stand up for yourself if the service is poor.

Josephine is the barber I have been looking for all my life. I trust her completely with my hair and bear. She listens to me, adapts, and leverages her long experience to advise me and help me look my best.

I have been coming to this salon for many years. I have always been a satisfied customer. I went into the salon to get a haircut last Friday and I asked for someone who has experience with dealing with hair extensions and she told me she does. She round brushed my hair after my haircut so I couldn't see it straight and when I finally washed my hair, this is what it looked like. When I called to complain, Ron, the new owner blamed it on my extensions slipping but I told them they are in place as before, also when I asked Ron if you are supposed to cut extensions while the hair is wet or dry and he told me you can cut it either way and the reason I asked because I remember I usually get my hair extension cut while it's dry but this time I got it cut while it's wet. They offered to refund the hair cut but what I wanted is my extensions replaced because now they cut 7 inches off it. Ron told me that since I did not have my extension installed at his salon, he won't cover my extension. The end product is my extension is in the same position minus several inches of length. I wish everyone well but I just want people to be informed and be careful. Lesson learn. 😭😭😭😭

The salon is very clean, and the staff is really polite! But KATYA knows nothing about haircuts. I asked for a bob haircut and even showed her a picture. She said, “Okay,” but the result is a disaster. She butchered my hair like a sheep. I have no idea how I’m supposed to style this hair now.

I have my hair colored & highlighted by Ashley & cut & styled by Nellie. I am 65 & was not happy with the health of my hair & also struggling with my grey roots that were occurring too fast. I researched a color specialists & luckily found Ashley & her team. My hair is healthier with the best color & cut I have ever had. I’m so appreciative of finding this salon for not only the integrity of my hair but also the genuine caring & kindness of these people. Highly, highly recommend !

I've been going to Marek Ashley for a few years now and it is such a great salon. Amanda is amazing! She is very creative and great with my hair. The staff is really friendly and they always look on point.
